Podcast #54 – Deaf & Indigenous Cricket, Club v Country which captures your imagination more and Television deals.

It has been a while since our last show and we apologise for that but hopefully you will agree it has been worth the wait.

Development of sports has become a major part of every sporting association’s modus operandi. On this show we catch up with Job van Bunge from the Development department at the Western Australian Cricket Association. Job has been appointed assistant coach of the Australian Deaf Cricket team that will be competing in the Deaf World Cup at the end of the year. He has also been involved with Indigenous development in the state, and discusses how the participation levels are on the rise as more Aboriginal players are breaking through at the top level.

Having just returned from the UK Ashley raises the question as to whether Australian sports fans would get behind an Australian club side in an international tournament to the level that English supporters did when Liverpool made the final of the Champions League. He also raises the question as to whether sports fans are becoming more attached to the club team they support than their international side.

John turns his attention to the recently announced television deal brokered by his beloved Hockey with Fox Sports. As a devotee of the game he feels that there has been a distinct lack of information as to what the deal means to the sport.

As we predicted the International Associations of Athletics Federations look like facing a challenge to their Transgender policy, with Caster Semenya understandably taking legal action.

Regulars will know that there is nothing John likes more than a good rant and he launches into a good one in relation to “Volunteers Week” in Sport.
