Our first show of 2020, and there sure was plenty to discuss. Happy New Year to all sports fans.
Our guest on this show is former Australian squash player Dean Williams who is now the CEO of Squash Western Australia. He joins us to talk about the changing landscape for the sport in Australia and how the state body is taking a stance against the National body when it comes to funding and support. Will Squash inspire other sports to take a stance against the controversial “One Management” program being proposed by Sport Australia?
Ashley admits that he was confused that in December it was announced that the Russians had been handed a four year ban from International Sporting competition by the World Anti Doping Agency, yet Russian tennis players were still competing in the ATP Cup in Australia, as well as a number of other events globally. So he did some digging and explains how this has come to pass, and it may disappoint some, but certainly raises the issue of the relevance of WADA.
The world of Cricket seems to be hellbent on destroying itself from the inside out. Having overcome match fixing scandals and the rough side of ball tampering everyone was ready to focus on the game, but now the administrators of England, India and Australia want to reduce the duration of Test matches from five days to four. John also brings up the question as to why bowlers are bowling so many no-balls, and why the umpires are failing to spot them.
