You’re Booked: A Life Too Short

“You’re booked” is a series of recommended sporting reads by international sports commentator, Ashley Morrison. An avid book reader and sports lover, these reads are curated from his personal collection of over 1500 sports books.

In 2009 on the eve of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa German goalkeeper Robert Enke stood in front of a train and his life ended far too prematurely. With depression finally being recognised as a legitimate illness this book gives an insight into the torment that those who suffer depression life under. To the outside world Robert Enke appeared to have everything, but the truth was very different. This is an incredibly moving book and yet a very important book in terms of people talking about depression.

“He hadn’t had an attack in years. Teresa told her, but when he broke his scaphoid bone he had started slipping again, even though his illness hadn’t really broken out this time.

Robert had agreed with Teresa that she should tell their friends in Empede. It was wearing him out, always having to play the person everyone thought he was.”
