Oxbridge boat race sets off.

The first of the famous Oxford-Cambridge boat races for heavyweight eights was rowed on the River Thames in England. The race between the two premier universities is conducted over a course from Putney to Mortlake measuring 6.8km. It has been run annually since 1856, except in war years.
