Podcast #89 – Why Do We Need Sports Psychologists And What Are The Positives We Can Take From Covid 19, Also Is The Border-Gavaskar Trophy Really On Par With The Ashes, And Will The Olympics Go Ahead?

Happy New Year! We hope that wherever you are you have a good break and that 2021 is a far better year for you than 2020 probably was.

There is no doubt that 2020 was challenging on many levels for many people, so our first guest of the year may be able to help you refocus heading into 2021. Jamil Qureshi is a highly respected Performance coach and Psychologist, and he joins us to talk about why Psychologists are required in high performance sport. Having worked with some of the top athletes across a number of sports, some of whom have reached number one in the World, Jamil shares some key thought processes to help not only elite athletes become better, but all of us to become better at what we do.

Jamil also looks at where sport is at the moment, and asks whether those at the top have used the Covid pandemic to reinvent or repurpose their sport or events.

In our topics under discussion following a couple of recent print articles where former Australian captain Steve Waugh was quoted as saying that the Border – Gavaskar trophy was on par with the Ashes, Ashley questions whether this is a legitimate claim or just to help sales of his new book? The conversation then rolls into whether the current Australian bowling attack is living up to the media hype and is really the best in the history of Australian cricket.

John suggests that if the International Hockey Federation wants to finish the Pro League they should create a hub in Western Australia, but also asks whether The Olympic Games will still go ahead in six months time. The conversation then turns to the impact on the Olympic Sports if they don’t go ahead and how that will compound their already dire financial situation.

What a great show, as always.

Jamil talks a lot of sense and puts it in such simple terms. Definitely an interview the administrators should listen to!
