Our guest on this show is a man who has to be one of Australia’s greatest athletes of the modern era, former Kookaburras captain Mark Knowles who retired after the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, with yet another Gold medal around his neck. Under discussion are some of the rule changes, the possibility of Hockey Fives replacing the eleven-a-side game at the Olympics, and where the game needs to be played to assure its future in Australia.
Turning our attention to topics under the microscope Ashley focuses on the news that the International Cricket Council has decided to grant all of its 104 member nations T20 International status. On face-value it seemed a crazy idea but could prove one of the best moves made by the ICC to increase the number of nations playing top level cricket and the game becoming more competitive.
Next up John looks at the inclusion of Tim Cahill in the penultimate Socceroos squad before Bert Van Marwijk announces his final squad for the World Cup in Russia. Was he included due to a marketing agreement? Will he go to Russia? Does he deserve to go based on where he is at this point in his career?
From there we meander onto Perth Glory and the appointment of Tony Popovic as Perth Glory coach and the pressure on him to deliver. As well as World Series Rugby and how it is embarrassing those at the head of the Australian Rugby.
