Podcast #52 – The Battle of the Brands, The A-League, Anzac Day, Player Opinion and So Much More

As sport becomes big business we are hearing the term Brand bandied about a great deal more. If it  is not a player’s brand then it’s a team’s or a National Association’s.

It would appear of late that we have witnessed a “Battle of the Brands” as Players take on their clubs or associations believing that they are bigger than both.

To try and make sense of the whole landscape we called in a Brand expert, David Mitchell from DNA-rB Ltd. (www.dna-rb.com) David explains what a brand is and how it should work in the business world of sport. He also gives a very interesting view of the whole Australian Ball-Tampering issue.

In our topics under discussion Ashley looks at the Perth Glory and how they are reflection of a competition that appears to have lost public interest. Is it time Tony Sage handed over the reins to someone else to reinvigorate the club in Western Australia?

Also under discussion is whether Anzac Day being used for commercial purposes by sporting bodies

Following on from our guest we meander our way through a number of issues.  John asks whether athletes should be allowed to have opinions of their own, whether sponsors have a right to become involved if they do not agree with those views. We also look at transparency in sport. Should punishments to players and administrators be made public at all times? If not why not?

Once again we would like to remind you that all of our podcasts are available on I-Tunes.
