Podcast #120 – Pole Sports Gaining Recognition, The Ashes and Messaging via Captain’s Armbands…

We have two guests on this show, as we delve into the topic of Pole sports.

A week ago the Australian Pole Sports Federation held the national Championships in Penrith, New South Wales. We have featured Pole on NTFS on many occasions and have copped criticism for doing so as some claim that this is not a sport. Now as the athletes seek Olympic Inclusion will there be a change of attitude? Certainly as you will hear there are some people who really need to do more homework before attacking the individuals involved. Deb Roach is a para pole competitor and is treasurer of the Australian Pole Sports Federation, which is an organisation run purely by volunteers, and joins us to explain just how commmited the pole and aerial athletes have to be to compete at this level.

In our interview with Deb she talks about how the sport tends to be popular amongst adults and how Australian can boast a World Record holder in Christie Kurrle. So we decided to also catch up with Christie, who unfortunately missed this year’s Australian Championships following a knee operation.

In our topics under discussion John and Ashley look at the current Ashes series and whether both teams are getting far too caught up in issues that are nothing to do with the actually playing of the game. There can be no doubt the media in both countries are doing all they can to try and create issues, rather than reporting facts.

Next up we look at the choice of eight Captain’s armbands available for the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Who makes the decision as to which cause our national team will opt to support? Is it representative of the people of the country that they are representing? Should sport be used for such causes? Is the focus being taken away from the sporting contest?

We apologise that there is a glitch with the website at the moment in relation to trying to access some of our earlier podcasts. This is being worked on.
