Marocchi Medal

Great to see Football West acknowledge Gary Marocchi by having the player in the Grand final receiving the Gary Marocchi medal.

They recognized that he represented WA as a player on 22 occasions and also won 13 international caps as a Socceroo, but correct us if we are wrong but is he not the only Western Australian to captain the Socceroos as well?

This is a fitting reward for a man synonymous to the game in Western Australia.

A terrific and deserved honour for Gary – and great to see FW are recognising the achievements of the past.

Ron Adair also captained Australia, against Vienna Rapid in August 1955.

Gary Marocchi was the first West Aussie to captain the Socceroos at ‘A’ level, that being against Greece in June 1978.
