Joke or Joker?

Is the Robbie Fowler joke about Wayne Rooney really good for Perth Glory? There is no doubt 90% of the people who heard the comment made by Fowler knew that it was tongue in cheek.

The sad fact is the media outlet that reported it as the truth made the Perth media look ridiculous. That such a non-story would actually get coverage is a very sad indictment on the football knowledge of those covering the game in Western Australia.

The club must have believed it was all a bit of a laugh, and hence decided to have on their website a mock interview between Fowler and media manager Steve Nelkovski, when in truth, as convincing as Fowler was it was rather a foolish prank. Perth Glory was slapped over the knuckles last year for supposed illegal manoeuvrings to tempt Birmingham’s Kevin Phillips to Perth. It is only because the whole idea of Rooney coming to Perth is so preposterous that the club does not find itself in hot water again.

What is more worrying is that the club would spend time on such a stunt when of late the mixed messages coming from the club have been damaging to its credibility, and that is without going into its form on the park.

We have to say the reporting and the club’s involvement in this whole incident is a very sad reflection on the Perth media and a poor reflection on the club at the moment.

Thanks as always for your comment. It was a very strange thing to do when you have lost 5 on the trot, and in our opinion misguided.

This was a total embarrassment to the club and Perth. Then they go out and play like they did on Sunday.
Sage may put his money in, but no one at the club has a clue of how to engage the public. Too many self promoters.
