We have all seen sports stars make it to the pinnacle only to be injured in a final race or game, and thereby robbing them of the deserved moment of glory. Then imagine how bad it must be to get injured while you are waiting to compete, and not through your own doing.
At the World Athletics Championships in Moscow Ukrainian discus thrower Natalia Semenova was sitting on a bench in the infield when Zaneta Glanc of Poland spread her arms and practised a throwing motion, with her discus in her hand.
She accidentally hit Semenova on the nose with the hand holding her discus.
Semenova did complete one throw but failed to qualify for the final. There is no doubt this incident upset her preparation, and we are sure she knows that to be the case.
