It is with shock and sadness that the world has woken up to the news that Andy Irons the three-time world surfing champion who could conquer almost any wave, has passed away; The 32-year-old Hawaiian succumbing to complications from dengue fever.
News reports have said they are not sure what strain of the fever Irons had contracted.
Symptoms of Dengue Fever include high fevers, rashes, headaches and fatigue. It is rare to die from the disease and usually it will go away on its own after a week. But the related disease, dengue hemorrhagic fever, is very dangerous. “Victims can go into a shock-like state and spots of blood appear on and under the skin.” Again however if patients survive the early shock, in the main they survive.
Irons won three consecutive world titles from 2002 to 2004.He leaves behind his wife and unborn son.
