The first draft of the A League fixtures for 2010/11 is out it looks like the whingeing by the Perth Glory and Newcastle Jets may have paid dividends.
Perth Glory the only team in the competition to have had to play their first two games away for two consecutive seasons are likely to play North Queensland Fury in their opening game at home. A mouth-watering prospect that will see Robbie Fowler play against his former club. It will also be a game that will see ex Coach Ian Ferguson take on his former club and will no doubt have a point to prove.
Newcastle united and Branko Culina bleated mercilessly when they had to fly to Perth last year to play on Boxing Day, and it looks like that paid dividends as Perth look likely to have a bye on Boxing day in 2010.
One strange anomaly is that Perth Glory has to travel twice to Adelaide. This is the third season in a row that they have played Adelaide away twice in a season and only once at home. They also have to travel to North Queensland Fury twice as they did last season.
Surely if you play a team away twice in one season you simply get them at home twice the following season? Obviously that would be far too obvious! But overall an improvement on last year, so well done FFA.
