There is no doubt Great Britain were wonderful hosts of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games this year. Their enthusiasm for the Paralympic Games helping raise the profile of athletes with a disability and disability issues in general, but all of that could be for nought if they do not get behind the Special Olympics which they will host next year.
The Games will be held next Summer at the University of Bath, and unlike their Paralympic counterparts none of the 1700 British competitors have received any Government funding or from the UK Lottery. It will also be interesting if these athletes receive television coverage.
The Special Olympics will be held from 28 August until 01 September and will see all of the athletes who have learning disabilities embark on twelve events.
Let us hope they too get the recognition that they deserve and manage to break down barriers within Britain and around the world.
