Many followers of sport will recall the story of Aaron Cook the British Taekwondo champion who was controversially left out of the Team GB squad for the Olympics because he opted to follow his own training program that had won him a World Championship rather than the one set out by the sport’s governing body in Britain.
Followers of the sport were looking forward to this week’s World Championships in Mexico and the possibility of Cook meeting the man selected in his place, Bronze medal winning Lutalo Muhammed.
Unfortunately the debate will have to rage on as Muhammed has been chosen to fight at the higher 87kgs weight category.
Cook is extremely frustrated that he cannot make a statement by beating the man who replaced him and send a clear message to those heading up the sport who according to him made 2012 ‘a complete nightmare.’
Sadly in sport sometimes it does not come down to how good you are. So Cook is left to stew for yet another tournament.
