Despite the Rio Olympic games, the first to be hosted by a South American nation being two years away, IOC officials are concerned following their recent visit that things are still behind schedule. They identified the need for a sense of urgency.
This was the IOC’s sixth visit to Rio,- well you would wouldn’t you? – to check on the progress being made. One would have thought with the same country and the same city hosting football’s World cup in just over two months there would have been some co-ordination to ensure that things were on track, but it appears the same concerns FIFA had are now being raised by the IOC.
The main concerns being over transport and accommodation. Another major issue is the polluted water at Guanabara Bay where the open swimming event is due to be held. At present the quality water level is well below acceptable standards.
