Despite so little international sport there is still plenty to discuss, especially with the Olympic Games just around the corner.
Following on from one of our topics under discussion (Podcast #96)in this show we catch up with former Springbok Media Manager Anthony Mackaiser to try and get to the bottom of what makes a good media manager. Not only that but how to prepare your coach and players for a press conference, and then how to control that press conference. Anthony’s views and experiences will no doubt give many a good insight into a key area of professional sport and also some good pointers as to how to run their operations better.
In our topics under discussion John looks at the Sha’Carri Richardson situation, where the American sprinter tested positive to Marijuana at the US Olympic trials and following a one month ban will miss her event in Tokyo. Richardson admitted taking the recreational drug following the death of her mother but assured everyone that she was not and never would be an athlete who would use performance enhancing drugs. Many top flight athletes have come out in support of her, should she be banned? The rules are there for a reason, but does each case need to be looked at independently? .
While in this show Ashley asks if an opportunity was missed by the powers that be during the FIH Pro League matches in Perth. After a well attended day of matches on the Saturday Perth went into a snap lockdown due to a positive Covid 19 case. This meant that crowds at sporting events were locked out, however up to 150 people were allowed indoors in the social distancing rules were adhered to. With so many New Zealand Black Sticks, and Australian Kookaburra and Hockeyroos parents having flown over to see their children, or brothers and sisters play their last games before heading to Tokyo, should a way have been found to admit them to the game, especially when the VIP function went ahead as planned?
