Welcome back!
Another great show lined up for you where we catch up with Former Leicestershire, Glamorgan, Somerset and Western Australia cricketer Jim Allenby to talk about the player development available through his company Players Choice, where the players are the centre of attention, and the coaches remain in the background. Jim also talks about something that many fans never give a thought to, being the centre of abuse. This is something that no amount of coaching can prepare you for and is another example as to why the hand-picked coaches at Players Choice offer more than just improving a player’s technique.
IN the topics under discussion Ashley looks at the turnover of coaches at Perth Glory and the disconnect between the club and the community. He asks whether it is time to give the role to a local coach with a mentor behind the scenes to try and help the club reconnect with the local game and the public at large. This leads into whether coaching orthodoxy has become a blight on sport? After all how many people go to watch a coach?
John turns his attention to the Olympic Games, and even though the International Olympic Committee is a Not For Profit organisation asks whether the time has come for the IOC to reward Olympic athletes with appearance or at least prize money? After all the Olympic Games turned professional officially in 1992, after some athletes hade been labelled “shamateurs” throughout the 1980’s. If professional athletes are participating, is it really too much to feel that the deserve to be remunerated for their appearance and success?
