It is great to see both live and local sport here in Australia starting to return, but will the sporting landscape ever be the same again?
First up there are many sports who are going to feel the pinch as the money received from Television will diminish. Some sports are looking at an Over The Top option to deliver games to their fans. We catch up with John Nienaber who has over 35 years of experience broadcasting sport. He reveals the pitfalls facing those who have opted for the OTT platform, and the cost of delivering what the consumer now expects. Certainly sport’s presence on television or other devices is going to change in the next few years.
In our topics under discussion John Lee asks where are the real fans? Sport has come back to our television screens, but is being played in empty stadia. Some fans who have never watched these sports are tuning in but many who would regularly are not. Have they been lost to the game forever? Will they return, or only to attend live games?
Ashley asks why just because many sports have created a Goalkeeper of the Year award these vital players are not included in the running for the Player of the Year Award? Only four goalkeepers have won the Football Writers Player of the year which was inaugurated in 1946/47 and the last to win was Neville Southall in 1984/85! Lev Yashin way back in 1963 is the only goalkeeper to ever be voted the World Player of the Year. There is now a seperate award for goalkeepers in most sports, but should that exclude them for being the Player of the Year?
