Fifteen years and six months since our very first show we have made it through to the magical 500! A big thank you to every guest that we have had on the show and also all who used to phone in.
The sporting landscape has changed a great deal in that time, and we have seen many sports in many countries across the globe about a “pathway to success.” There have been many who questioned the wisdom of those pathways, but Sport NZ are one of the first nations to push back against it. They found that the pathways were not only failing to produce world class athletes, but they were responsible for reducing the number of people playing sport.
In this show we talk to Alex Chiet, Sport NZ’s Talent Development Manager about the findings and the changes taking place in New Zealand Sport. How many other nations will follow their lead? (Our apologies that the sound on the interview sounds like Alex is in a box).
In the topics under discussion Ashley and John discuss the Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup and whether there was enough marketing to support the event, or whether the right venues were used. Bot agreeing though that it was a successful tournament, but one that can be improved on from a showcase perspective.
Once again we thank all our guests and former co-hosts for seeing us through to 500 shows. Here’s to the next 100…
