There is a real Hockey feel about this podcast and for a change we have two guests featured.
Our first guest is the Australian coach of the Japanese Women’s Hockey team Anthony Farry. Does being an ex International player make it easier for an aspiring coach? We look at that issue and how hard it was for Anthony to make it to the level he is at now. The sacrifices he and his wife have had to make, and how the things that excite him as a coach are often not the results on the pitch.
Our second guest is a young man from Bhubaneswar who has started on a path to open a sporting museum of a different kind, and his name is Sampoorna Rath. You can find him on Facebook at Jersey Collector Sam.
Having two guests has limited our topics under discussion, but with Ashley having just returned from commentating the Women’s Champions Trophy he implores the FIH to re-instate the competition. IT is a quality tournament which sees the best teams in the world go head to head and teams that win the title prove themselves the best of the best.
Next John and Ashley discuss the issue of sports producing too many coaches. The fact that coaching courses have now become a revenue stream means that it is in the sport’s interest to push more people through their courses, but are there checks and measures in place to make sure that the accredited coaches are continuing to perform and do their job properly. Should there be more follow up once coaching certificates have been issued?
Finally on a show with so much focus on Hockey Ashley and John look at the Odisha World Cup and pick the teams they believe will be playing off for a place in the final.
If you have not seen it yet, look out for Ashley’s “The World Cup in 90 seconds” daily updates and also John’s daily World Cup Podcast at The Reverse Stick.
