There is nothing worse than having a fixture postponed, when you have been keyed up to play for weeks. So imagine what it must be like to have an event that you have been training for at the Paralympics withdrawn from the Games less than two years out from the quadrennial event.
This has happened to our guest on this a show a man whose Para-triathlon career we have followed since its infancy, Brant Garvey. Unfortunately it appears that there is no going back this time around, but the athletes who have been robbed of this opportunity are hatching a plan for an event. For more information make sure you listen to Brant, and follow him on social media.
In our topics under the microscope Ashley turns his attention to the fines meted out to misbehaving athletes and questions whether suspensions would be more effective in eradicating unacceptable behaviour as witnessed in the US Open Tennis final from Serena Williams in her match against Naomi Osaka.
Also under discussion is Usain Bolt’s trail with the Central Coast Mariners and whether this is good for football in Australia. Being a private enterprise the owner of the Mariners is entitled to spend money on whatever he wishes but would the club, which came last in 2017/18, be better served investing in your development? Should the FFA be assisting financially in supporting a high profile athlete with limited football ability?
John then shares his thoughts on the traditions of “Mad Monday” and whether the media are paying too much attention to players letting off some steam.
Also we talk about the Asian Games at which Ashley was commentating, and look at the media reaction to defeat from some of the teams in Asia, bearing in mind that in Hockey this was an Olympic qualifying tournament.
