As usual there is plenty to talk about in the World of Sport.
With the Commonwealth Games just around the corner on this show we catch up with Dubbo’s only Olympian Brian Tink. Brian won a Bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games for Boxing in front of a parochial home crowd at the Brisbane Commonwealth Games in 1982. He says that nothing will compare for the athletes performing in front of a home crowd. We also discuss the future of boxing at the Olympics which has appeared to be under threat.
In our topics under discussion Ashley looks at the World of Cricket and asks if the sanitising of the sport has gone too far. Yes the sport needs a code of conduct but are we seeing fast bowlers being tamed and no longer allowed to show the bare aggression shown by the likes of Lillee and Thomson? Are fans losing out as the contest between bat and ball is being diluted? Would these bowlers have become the icons they have if they had been prevented from having a word with a batsman?
John has always been passionate about his hockey, and he turns his attention to Hockey Australia’s apparent decision to completely revamp the Australian Hockey League and make it nine-a-side as well as implement a number of other new rules. Traditionalists don’t like it, nor do many others from the sound of things, but it appears the lure of payment has resulted in many of the players staying quiet. Feel free to share your thoughts as this is one debate that is going to get heated.
