Thank you once again to who downloaded the last podcast, as the last show broke all records in terms of listeners and thank you also to those who took the time to contact us with their feedback.
On this show our focus is once again football, as Ashley catches up with Scotland and former West Bromich Albion, and Manchester City midfielder Asa Hartford. Asa Hartford was signed by high flying Leeds United only to have the contract cancelled after a medical report showed he had a hole in his heart. He went on to have a glittering career and looks back on moments in that career including two World Cups with Scotland.
In our topics under discussion the question is whether Australia is going to have a national Cricket team to take on England in the Ashes series. All of the Australian professional cricketers are now out of contract as they still struggle to come to an agreement with Cricket Australia. We look at whether the whole argument has been sidetracked, and whether this is a business issue or a sporting issue. Is the demand for revenue sharing a realistic model? If so are the players happy to treated more like the average employee? Should the top players be made to give back a percentage of their earnings to be re-invested into the game, like HECS fees?
The second topic looks briefly at the fact that FIFA is looking at bring in a “normalisation committee” to run football in Australia. Does Football need to be very careful who it gives voting rights to? Are we heading back down a path which will see two states holding the balance of power? (Please Note Ashley Said the Socceroos last World Cup qualifying game was against Japan when it is against Thailand).
