There is plenty under discussion on this sshow as we follow up on discussions points from the last podcast.
Our special guest is the Australian Men’s hockey goalkeeper Andrew Charter who is a dual career athlete, who has witnessed first hand how hard it is for many elite athletes to find employment after their sporting career comes to an end. He has set up a business called “The Bench” where he intends to use his network and experience to help athletes transition the skills that they have learned as elite athletes into the work force. This is a great incentive and hopefully business and athletes will want to use The Bench now and in the future. Certainly Andrew expects to be busy post Paris 2024.
In our topics under discussion Ashley turns his attention to cameras being inside the dressing rooms on live broadcasts. Does this really add to the viewing experience? Should athletes expect this intrusion as it is while they are at work? Why is it that only sowm sports allow such access and others don’t. Also in a world in which we are told that equality is paramount, it is not surprising that there are no cameras in female dressing rooms.
John turns his attention to not only the Socceroos coach asking for more funding for football but more importantly sports bodies becoming involved in political agenda and speaking out on behalf of their members with out any consultation process. Is this really what sporting organisations should be doing? Are they being used as political pawns? Support this or watch your funding be reduced? Individuals at the top of sport need to understand that they are representatives of that sport at this given moment in time, personal agendas need to be left at the door and what is best for the sport is the most important thing.
