Time for another Podcast and plenty under the microscope.
Our special guest on this show is James Reade a Professor from Reading University in the UK who was part of a team that looked at the effects of Covid 19 on Elite athletes playing in the German Bundesliga and Italian Serie A. It is important to note that the findings of this Discussion Paper labelled “The long shadow of an infection: COVID-19 and performance at work that the results were based on non-vaccinated people. The big question is will there be a long term effect on these athletes and how will it affect these players.
For many the news that Manchester United, Barcelona, Leeds United, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace are heading to Australia is exciting news. Ashley however asks whether such trips benefit Australian football? Should our State Governments continue to throw vast sums of money at such events, and if so should they be required to back up and prove that the events do in fact generate the income that they claim? Do these games encourage Australian children to follow the A-League or do they simply result in them supporting the European side?
In addition to this he asks how Dwight Yorke, a man with no coaching experience, is given the role of Coaching the A-League All Stars and how that is going to help or encourage Australians to pursue a career in coaching.
John turns his attention to the meeting held in Sydney between the Australian Olympic Committee, the International Olympic Committee and the Queensland Government and why the meeting was held in Sydney when the 2032 Games are due to be hosted in Brisbane, and why the Queensland Premier took her partner to what she thought that this was an “informal meeting.”
