In a first for the show we are breaking slightly with tradition and are giving over the majority of the show to the two men who will face-off in the International Hockey Federation’s election for a new President this weekend, following the resignation of Mr Narinder Batra a few months ago.
The two men in question are Tayyab Ikram who is the current CEO of the Asian Hockey Federation. He is already a FIH Executive Board member, since being elected in 2016. Mr Ikram also holds roles within the Olympic Council of Asia, sitting on its Coordination Committee and being vice-chair of the Athletes Committee. At International Olympic Committee level, Mr Ikram is a member of the Olympic Solidarity Commission and the Athletes’ Rights and Responsibilities Declaration Steering Committee.
Former Belgium international Marc Coudron is the other candidate. Mr Coudron is a former member of the FIH Executive Board. He was president of the Belgian Hockey Federation and is a Board Member and Treasurer of the Belgian Olympic Committee, since 2013. He captained his national team for seven years and played for the national team of Belgium 358 times. He served as a member of the European Hockey Federation Competitions Committee from 2006-2014. He works in finance as a Private Banker.
As both interviewees were given a similar amount of time to share their views on the game and what they would bring to it, in this episode we have not focussed on any other pertinent topics to discuss in the world of sport. We apologise to those who do not follow hockey, and hope that you will tune in again for the next episode, but as you will know both Ashley and John have an involvement in the sport and this is a very important time for the sport of Hockey. Even if you do not follow the sport it is hoped that you will still find the points discussed interesting, and form your own opinions on who you think would be the best choice to lead the sport at this point in time.
