It was a bad weekend for Australian sport, and for Rugby League fans the pain of suffering another defeat to the Kiwis in the final of the Four Nations tournament meant their trophy cabinet has been emptied, well almost.
You see the Australian Rugby League left the Bill Kelly Memorial Trophy in the cabinet in Australia, when they took the Four Nations Trophy to Brisbane and handed that to the Kiwis following their victory in the final. However the Bill Kelly Memorial trophy which is played for whenever the two nations meet was left behind at ARL headquarters.
ARL officials have said it was a genuine mistake, and will forward the trophy to Auckland, leaving just dust in their trophy cabinet.
