On November 7th Newcastle Jets lost to Sydney FC and slumped to bottom of the Hyundai A League. They were three points adrift from the team above them.
Their future had been secured thanks to Mining magnate Nathan Tinkler buying the club, but with only 4 games in seven weeks after he stepped in it was always going to be hard to gain consistency.
Since the start of November and until the weekend, when they travelled to Wellington they had gone undefeated in seven games. A credit to Branko Culina and his team, but also to Nathan Tinkler who gave his coach at that time an extended contract giving the coach one less thing to worry about and a vote of confidence. It is therefore good to see that confidence being rewarded.
The Jets stunned many when they came from behind after a dreadful start to the season to win the Grand Final under Gary van Egmond in 2007-08. Many believe that this season could in fact see a repeat, with the Jets now in the finals frame.
