Ireland performed superbly at the weekend to defeat the World Champions South Africa at Croke Park, and Jonathan Sexton’s kicking was again superb. The 24-year-old Leinster number ten is destined to be one of Ireland’s greats if he can maintain his consistency.
Declan Kidney the Irish coach must also take a bow for selecting the young fly half ahead of another Irish legend Ronan O’Gara. It was great to see O’Gara on his feet applauding his replacement with a genuine smile of happiness as Ireland hit the front, and showed a great team spirit amongst the Irish that will hold them in good stead.
However one of the highlights of this game was the crowd. The way that no matter which team was kicking for goal they respected the game and the kicker and there was no hooting or hollering. There was silence and then once the ball was kicked the noise levels returned. It was great to see crowds once again respect the athlete on the park.
Ireland you can be proud of what you achieved on the park and off it. You were a credit to world Rugby.
