Interesting to see Hopman Cup director Paul MacNamee use the West Australian Newspaper to try and leverage a deal for coverage of the 2011 event in Perth.
In October it appeared that MacNamee tried a similar stunt using the media to try and influence the elections within Tennis Australia and gain the position of President. On that occasion it backfired.
No doubt the ABC will be looking at the viewer figures before making an informed decision. This year’s tournament has once again been superb viewing live or on television and shows that the event is well established in Perth and also on the International Tennis calendar.
What the ABC may wish to consider however is the dropping one of the commentary team. His segment on ABC news is more than enough airtime than to let him loose on a tournament such as this. A poll on his suitability may reveal interesting feedback.
