Britain’s number one exponent in Taekwondo Aaron Cook was overlooked for Team GB even though he was the reigning world champion because he opted to follow his own training regime rather than the one run by the national body.
His replacement Lutalo Muhammed was unable to win the gold that many expected Cook to win, but did make the podium after winning the bronze medal.
The two will meet in Manchester at a Grand Prix event in December which is bound to attract a great deal of interest.
This could well be a precursor for next year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow where selection will not be an issue as Cook will be representing the Isle of Man.
One has to feel for Muhammed who has simply been dragged into a rivalry that was not of his making, but one that will certainly help his sporting profile.
