The days of the club groundsman or the curator at immaculately kept cricket ovals in Australia could soon become a thing of the past.
Honda Motor Europe have developed “Mimo,” the ultimate time and labour saving device, as once installed it requires minimal human interaction. “Mimo” is a robotic lawnmower.
Unlike a lawnmower “Mimo” which has been initially developed for the home does not collect cuttings, as the clippings are so small they are dispersed amongst the grasses root systems and act as a natural fertiliser ultimately improving the quality of the grass.
According to Honda, ‘”Mimo” navigates through an intelligent combination of controls, timers and real-time sensory feedback.’It works within a boundary wire installed under the ground or in the grass around the edge of your garden or pitch. It detects a signal in the wire and makes sure to stay within the perimeter. This also guarantees a high level of safety and accuracy. Incredibly it is powered by a high performance lithium-ion battery, is self-charging, and monitors its own battery level and returns to its own docking station when it needs re-charging!
The blades are highly durable and bend rather than shatter on impact with hard objects. The cutting height is also adjustable between 20mm and 60mm to suit conditions and the time of year.
“Mimo” is only currently available for domestic use but it may not be long before a commercial version is available. Which should bring an end to parties on the wicket at the WACA!
