How ironic is it that Stuart Pearce should replace Fabio Capello as interim England Manager, after the Italian resigned his position following the English FA’s decision to strip John Terry of the England captaincy, due to allegations of racial abuse leveled at the Chelsea player.
It is ironic, because Stuart Pearce is apparently far from happy about the pressure being applied to have him not only select David Beckham as a member of his Olympic football team, but also to appoint him captain.
Organizers are concerned about slow ticket sales and believe Beckham as one of the three over age players allowed could well be the catalyst to boost pre-games sales. It is also believed that many feel Beckham deserves the honour for the part he played in helping London win the hosting rights for the 2012 Olympic Games.
Pearce has voiced his opinion that the focus should be on youth and also that he believes that there are over-age players who are in better form than the former England captain.
Time will tell who wins out on this issue, but is unlikely that Pearce will resign over it!
