As we have seen in Australia some European take their pre season tours more seriously than others, but it will be worrying for Manchester City’s big spending boss Mark Hughes as his side lost 2-0 to Orlando Pirates. Yes, news signings Carlos Tevez and Roque Santa Cruz did not play neither did Gareth Barry. Yet Ruud Krol the Pirates coach rested his Bafana Bafana stars Teko Modise, Benson Mhlongo, Katlego Mashego and Innocent Mdledle. So surely City should have overcome the Pirates?
Next they take on the Kaiser Chiefs and the owners will surely be expecting a victory or they may start looking for a new boss.
The big question is can Mark Hughes handle the big name players. At Blackburn he was probably a bigger name than the players he had under his charge and he did a great job moulding them into a team. At Man City he faces a very different set of issues, time will tell.
