Western Australia’s Kieran Gorman is number one in the world in his chosen sport but a lack of sponsorship could see him unable to compete.
Kieran recently accompanied the Australian Sports Aerobic team to the Suzuki World Cup in Tokyo Japan.
Kieran took out the Senior Male International title, beating the reigning world champion in the process. He was also awarded the prestigious “Championship Trophy,” which is presented to the senior athlete who achieved the highest score throughout the competition. Kieran is the first Australian to ever win this.
The Australian team had their most successful competition in recent years, winning through to the final round of each division they entered
Kieran’s victory qualified him for the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) World Series in Borovets Bulgaria and Chambery France.
In Borovets, Kieran placed 7thin the final and in Chambery he placed 2nd in the final. These results were enough to give him the number one ranking in the world for the first time ever.
However in addition to having to pay his own way to Europe he also was fined for not having a judge with him – a requirement – as he cannot afford to compete, and fly his coach to competitions while he has no sponsors.
The next FIG World Series event is in Las Vegas in July 2009, and Kieran is being hampered by the international rules which state that he must be accompanied by a judge. If anyone wants to sponsor this outstanding young athlete contact the station on 08 9470 4966.
