When News is Not News

Now we are obviously big sports fans and that is how the show and the blog came into being, but sometimes sport has to be put in context.

Last night some television stations headline news story in their six o’clock news – only by name normally – led with the story of a coach from the sport we do not mention being fined the paltry sum of $7500 for an altercation with an opposition player. The second story was the unfortunate death of a worker on a mine site.

In all seriousness which story carries more gravitas and should be leading a “news” programme? We know that there is an over the top obsession with the sport that we don’t mention but shame on the News editor for deciding that this story warranted leading the news.
