West Australian Victory

At the end of the last A League season West Australian and former Socceroo goalkeeper Michael Petkovic stepped down as number one at Melbourne Victory, and was replaced by fellow West Australian Tando Velaphi.

Velaphi wanted to move East in the hope of being guaranteed the number one position, which was not forthcoming at Perth Glory who had signed Danny Vukovic.

It is understood that Western Knights stopper Fraser Siddall is now headed to Victory for trials and to try and claim the reserve keeper spot at the Victory, but we hear that position has already been filled by yet another West Australian goalkeeper.

The word is that Adelaide United’s Mark Birighitti has signed for Melbourne Victory in search of first team football, which the South Australian club could not guarantee with Eugene Galekovic still their number one between the posts.

One thing is for sure Western Australia is the place to come for goalkeepers, remember, Zabica, Franken, and the Petkovics?

Thank you Andrija, but I think I would be remembered for far different reasons than these outstanding ‘keepers.
