Riggs Wins Tennis Battle. The 55-year old American Bobby Riggs beat Australia’s Margaret Court in straight sets in a much publicised Mother’s Day Challenge match in Ramona, California. It’s been suggested that Riggs psyched Court out when he presented her with a huge bouquet of flowers. In any case he won a one-sided match 6-2, 6-1. Court’s defeat prompted Billie Jean King to exact a resounding straight sets revenge on Riggs on behalf of the women’s tour in September in Houston.
