The Hungry Games – Tracey Wheeler

Women’s football has only been in the Olympic Games since 1996 but Australia’s Matildas have participated in three Olympiads.

In Sydney in 2000 Western Australia’s Tracey Wheeler was the sole representative from the state.

In the fifth edition of the Hungry Games, where we catch up with Western Australian Olympians in cafes, restaurants and bars in Perth we sit down and relive Tracey’s Memories of the Games.We sat down with Tracey at Christina’s restaurant in Victoria Park.

Tracey is one of Western Australia’s most decorated female footballers with 49 ‘A’ appearances for the Matildas. She like Ramon Andersson played for Morley Windmills and has received a number of awards for her career. She was awarded the Australian Sports Medal by the Australian Government in 2000. Then eight years later entered into the Hall of Champions category of the Football Hall of Fame, Western Australia, she has also received an Award of Distinction from Football Federation Australia’s Hall of Fame.

The Football Hall of Fame Western Australia will be having another induction event at Crown Perth on 26th November and will be celebrating 20 years of Perth Glory. Tickets and information available from admin@footballhalloffamewa.com.au
