The Heat is On

The Alcohol Think Again Perth Heat are just two weeks away from attempting to retain their Australian Baseball League title, and win the Claxton shield for the fourth time in five years, and it would be a brave man to bet against them.

The Heat have become a leader in Australian Baseball both on and off the ball park. One man in the background who deserves a lot of the credit and who constantly shies away from it is Geoff Hooker.

The club will however be entering unchartered waters in late November when they head to Asia to compete in the 2011 Asia Series in Taiwan.

The competition, that was created in 2005 and was originally known as the Konami Cup will see Championship teams from ABL (Australia), KBO (Korea), NPB (Japan) heading  to Taiwan and take on the championship team of CPBL (Taiwan) for the title of “Asian Champions.”

The tournament has not been played since 2008 due to financing issues following the withdrawal of Konami and it has been dominated by the teams from Japan.

The Perth Heat will be hoping to perform well in the round robin competition, and the ABL has given them a break from the regular season to give them the best chance of success. The ABL realizing that an Australian team performing well will give the ABL a massive boost in terms of Baseball credibility.

This is a huge event for Australian Baseball and we wish the Perth Heat good luck.
