The Divine Number

One thing that has us baffled is why we are still persisting with numbering each season of the Hyundai A League. This season being referred to as “Season Seven of the Hyundai A League.”

We wondered if this was simply because two gods of Australian football Brett Emerton and Harry Kewell had returned to the League to see out their careers, and seven is after all known as ‘the divine number,’ hence seventh heaven.

Seriously though do we really need to number each season? Does any other league do this except for American Football?

By all means celebrate milestones like the 50th year or 100th, but is there any reason behind this approach and does anyone else find it is pointless. Surely the 2011/12 season of the Hyundai A League makes far more sense, as trying to remember what year season six or five was is going to become harder each year.

Then again we were never very good with numbers!
