Something in the Water

Queensland as everyone knows has been hit terribly by the worst flooding in years and our thoughts go out to all of those affected. However there must be something in the water up there that helps footballers with a Queensland connection keep scoring goals.

For a start Brisbane Roar are currently the league’s top scorers and deservedly sitting top of the A League ladder. They have scored eight more goals than the next highest scorers Adelaide United.

Then if you look at the A League’s top five scorers, ex Brisbane Roar player and now Adelaide United marksman Sergio van Dijk is leading the standings with eleven, but the next two players on ten goals are both from the Roar, Jean Carlos Solorzano and Kosta Barbarouses. Melbourne Victory’s Robbie Kruse, who is also an ex Brisbane Roar player also has ten.

Robbie Fowler who of course sampled the waters in North Queensland with the Fury comes in fifth with nine goals.
Having had the privilege of calling the National Youth League game between Gold Coast United and Perth Glory, at the weekend and witnessing Gold Coast fight back from 3-1 down at half time to win 6-4, we again saw goal scoring prowess from Queensland. Ben Halloran cancelling out Branko Jelic’s hat-trick with one of his own, and Perth born Chris Harold could have had a brace but instead won two penalties.

It would appear that goals are easier to come by in Queensland!
