Where does the time go? It seems like only yesterday we were posting the last podcast.
As usual there is plenty happening in the World of Sport. Plenty to debate, plenty to marvel at and plenty to bemoan.
Back in 1991 Australian boxing great Johnny Famechon was hit by a car when out running. He was told that he would never walk again. Being the fighter that he was he proved everyone wrong. However he would not have been able to achieve that feat without the help of Ragnar Purje. Ragnar whose sport was Karate has a PHD in cognitive neuroscience. Having met Rganar at the unveiling of the Johnny Famechon statue Ashley thought it would be interesting to talk more about the power of the brain and whether athletes pay enough attention to its power.
In our topics under discussion John asks how other established women’s sports must feel when they see the media coverage given to the AFL’s women’s league. Why has this stolen the limelight from many other sports where women have been competing on a par with men for years or in stand alone competitions? Is it because many in the media are simply AFL-centric and have a limited knowledge of other sports or is there something more sinister behind the excessive exposure?
Ashley turns his attention to Rugby Union and how the latest rule changes have made the game more like Rugby League and the Rugby Union of all is becoming a distant memory. The rules are making it virtually impossible for a team without possession to win the ball unless their opponents make an error. Is that good to watch?
