On Thin Ice

Australia will not have a figure skater at the winter Olympics next year. To some that may not be a major blow, as Australia is not always associated with the Winter Games, but it is a major blow to those who follow the sport.

Cheltzie Lee’s performance at the Nebelhorn Trophy in Germany was not enough for her to qualify, and Greg Merriman of the dance pairs had to dash his partner Danielle O’Brien’s hopes of an Olympic berth when he was unfortunately rushed to hospital with a heart infection. We wish him a speedy recovery.

As we do all involved with skating. This is the first time Australia has not had a representative at the Winter games since 1972!

With the new Perth Ice Arena, let us hope that Western Australia may well be able to right that come 2014.
