Perth Glory fans who attended their last game of the season, a 4-0 loss to Newcastle Jets at Energy Australia are likely to have witnessed Robbie Fowler’s last competitive game of football.
Sources in the United Kingdom have said that the former Liverpool and England star has decided that he will walk away from the everyday routine of training and will concentrate on playing in Masters competitions and invitational games around the world, such as the game he has come under criticism for playing in Chechnya a week ago, as well as continuing his foray into coaching.
This game in Chechnya and the players who participated including Luis Figo, Maradona, Fabien Barthez and Steve MacManaman have come under immense criticism as the organiser, President Ramzan Kadyrov is accused of human rights violations by Amnesty International.
There is a possibility that Fowler may return to Perth purely for the Glasgow Celtic game, although one wonders why and whether coach Ian Ferguson would agree to such a move, as he prepares his team for the upcoming A League season.
Perth Glory will no doubt try and prolong the announcement of such a decision to try and gain maximum membership sales and publicity. They still have him on their website as a forward at the club even though his contract expired two months ago.
