Mitchell Adelaide Target

With the announcement official that Aurelio Vidmar is leaving Adelaide to take up the role Head Coach of the Men’s Olympic Team for the 2012 Olympic Games and Assistant Coach of the Qantas Socceroos, as flagged on “Not the Footy Show” five weeks ago, a vacancy has come up in the A League coaching ranks.

The buzz before this announcement was that Adelaide would come looking for one its former favourite sons, Dave Mitchell, currently coach of Perth Glory. This is now believed to be the rumour around the city of churches.

Mitchell has assembled a team at Perth Glory this year that could challenge for the title, but is only on a one year contract. Adelaide may try and lure him back to his home town with a longer tenure.

Ultimately it will come down to whether he wants job security or whether he is prepared to back his players at Perth Glory to get him in the required top four and a Grand Final to secure a new contract.
It could be an interesting week as the various scenarios play out

Now if Adelaide had qualified for the Asian Champions League again then maybe he would be a chance. But why would you go to Adelaide now. Do they have a new owner yet, or still being run by the FFA? I can’t see Mitchell moving to that scenario, considering his experience when Ron Smith was coach and the FFA’s handling of the Glory squad then.
