Heading an Own Goal

A visit to the Perth Glory website is confusing some fans this week. The landing page has an advertisement for upcoming fixtures under a headline “Friends become Foes in Double Header Showdown,” with pictures of former players Simon Colosimo and Michael Baird, who will be returning to their old club with the Melbourne Heart and Central Coast Mariners.

As stated previously it seems sad that the club opts to promote former players rather than the current players in their team, but that is obviously a marketing decision that has been made by the club. We are sure that Fans would however relate to current players far more than past players.

But that is not what has had fans confused, it is the fact that they are promoting a ‘double header,’ yet the games are being played four days apart. They are certainly not a double header, which is when “two games are played back-to-back.” As much as that may sound appealing the players may have a very different view on 180 minutes of football.
