Gold Diggers?

As everyone knows Great Britain is pulling out all stops to have representation in all sports at next year’s 2012 London Olympics.

In many of the sports there was absolutely no expectation of winning a medal; however it would appear someone forgot to tell the Greco Roman Wrestling guys.

Apparently British Wrestling has been importing athletes from Bulgaria and the Ukraine; one of the seven man squad from the former and four from the latter.

There have also been a number of weddings amongst the new recruits as the men appear to be in a lovelock rather than a headlock.

The international governing body is far from pleased and it is reported that the British Olympic Association is also “uneasy” with the developments.

Judging from your surname Paul I figure you may know a thing or 2 about Greek sports. I believe they also failed to field a couple of runners as well. Not that I want to start off any ethnic war on Not the Footy Show’s Blog, although the look on Ashleys face would be funny, and Australia can’t stand innocent of the East European Olympic recruitment drive, I would like to hear from someone with a Spanish surname. I was hoping they could explain what was going on in their compatriots heads during the basketball tournament at the ’92 Barcelona Para-Olympics. They may have been the ‘Special Olympics’ in those days. May be they did qualify. They did they could get away with it.

Reminds me of the global recruitment of the Greek diaspora to fill squads for the funny team sports for the Athens Olympiad in 2004.

None funnier than the American Greeks who turned out for the Baseball but nothing sadder than the host nation’s inability to field womens or mens field hockey sides
