Glory Comes at a Price

There are many who have been watching the Perth Glory’s recruitment for the upcoming A League season with great interest, and are asking how they can recruit the quality they have within the salary cap. In the past they almost came unstuck with the rolling contracts that had been negotiated seeing players wages increase each season. A punt that had been taken in the hope the salary cap ceilling would rise by a proportional amount.

In the past defender Chris Coyne had a large proportion of his income paid by club sponsor and media partner radio station 6PR. One would assume that similar agreements are being brokered this coming season.

However as new players come in old ones must leave and it is believed that Branko Jelic will be a casualty at the club, and that an agreement has been brokered. It is believed that Jelic has played his last game for the club, and that the remaining year of his contract is to be paid out in the next few months.

It started so well for the Serbian marksman, but with the signing of Fowler he fell out of the reckoning under coaches Dave Mitchell and Ian Ferguson, as it was felt that the two playing together lacked pace.  Yet one could not help feeling that his predatory instincts were still sharper than the former Liverpool player’s at that point in their careers.

We wish the personable Jelic al the best for the future.
